Romans 16:20 says, "The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet." NOTE : This was spoken to a first-century audience, this wasn’t a vague prophecy for thousands of years later. It was imminent.
Jesus Himself confirmed this:
John 12:31 — "Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out."
John 16:11 — "The ruler of this world has been judged."
1 Corinthians 15:27 — "For He has put everything under His feet."
So what does that mean for death, the so-called "last enemy"?
1 Corinthians 15:26 — "The last enemy to be destroyed is death." 2 Timothy 1:10 — "Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel."
If Jesus destroyed death, and death was the last enemy, then something radical happened in the spirit realm. But what exactly was destroyed?
Death: A Spiritual Reality, Not Biological Event
John 8:51 — "Anyone who obeys my teaching will never die."
Clearly, Jesus wasn’t referring to physical death. Even His closest followers died physically. He was pointing out spiritual death — separation from God.
And what gave spiritual death its power?
1 Corinthians 15:56 — "The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the Law."
The Law and Death were intertwined. The Law exposed sin but also empowered it, keeping humanity locked in separation.
Hebrews 2:14 — "He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death — that is, the devil."
The devil's "power of death" was the accusatory structure of the Law itself. That entire system was dismantled in Christ.
Death in the New Heaven and Earth?
Even in the prophetic language of Isaiah, we see physical death still present:
Isaiah 65:20 — "The one who dies at a hundred will be considered a mere child."
So physical death was never the true issue. The real death Christ destroyed was spiritual separation. When He abolished the Law, He abolished the adversary’s only power.
Revelation: The Fire That Ends Separation
Revelation 20:14 — "Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire."
Revelation’s imagery points to the end of the old covenant system. The "lake of fire" is the symbolic collapse of the legal, separation-based structure. Death and Sheol are not entities, but patterns — and they were consumed.
Who or What is “Satan”?
In the original Hebrew and Greek, "satan" is never used as a proper name. It simply means adversary. Even Peter was called a "satan" by Christ (Matt 16:23). King David had military adversaries called "satans."
The real satan is the unrenewed mind (ego, false identity, carnal nature).
Mark 7:21 says evil comes from the heart of man ... (not from some "devil").
Colossians 1:21 — "You were once alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior."
The "talking snake" in Genesis is best understood as a metaphor for the adversarial mind.
Our battle has never been against an external monster. It has always been against the inner narrative of separation (the false identity of ego - the unrenewed mind, aroused by the law).
The Old Nature Was Already Crucified
2 Corinthians 5:14 — "We are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died."
Romans 11:32 — "God has shut all up in disobedience to show mercy to all."
Romans 3:3-4 — "The unbelief of some will not nullify God’s faithfulness."
We were all included in Christ's death, even before we believed. This is not about religion and legalism. It's about the RETURN of true identity (the CHRIST consciousness).
Your false identity (ego) has been dismantled. Your true identity (spirit) is already held in Christ.
As I like to say:
"These things don’t appear from out of the blue. They appear from out of you."
